Tappex – Environmentally Friendly Threaded Inserts for plastics and composite materials.

With the increase in demand for more environmentally friendly products, Tappex have successfully developed threaded inserts, manufactured from lead free brass for several large international customers, including a furniture manufacturer and an automotive- injection moulder.

The products we’ve manufactured so far are suitable for heat-pressed installation into thermoplastics. As demand grows for lead free inserts, Tappex will continue to expand its offering across other product families, including mould-in and self-tapping varieties.

Manufacturing a lead free threaded insert has been a technically challenging process. Usually the lead content of brass, allows for the brass to be machined with relative ease. The absence of lead increases friction during the high-speed machining process so its inevitable that without lead content, cutting tools require re-grinding more frequently as a consequence..

There were also logistical challenges, in dealing with the swarf created. Reflecting Tappex’s strong values on environmental sustainability, we recycle approx 99% of the brass swarf that we create. The lead free products are manufactured on dedicated machines, where the swarf is collected and washed separately to the standard brass swarf. Both types of swarf are then stored separately, ready for collection and re-cycling.

If you have an application that requires either standard brass or lead free brass inserts, please get in touch…

Tappex Thread Inserts – For Wood & Structural Foam Applications

The Foamsert – Self-tapping brass thread inserts from Tappex Thread Inserts provides an excellent solution for fastening into softer plastics, wood and structural foam materials.

The Foamsert should be specified for applications with blind holes, in laminated chip boards, medium density fibre board and some glass reinforced plastics.

It is available in both a double ended and Reduced headed design, both with a coarse truncated external thread. The insert has three equidistant cutting flutes, over the length of the external form, providing effective cutting action at many points. This gives a balanced cutting load, which reduces `side thrust’ guaranteeing close axial alignment of the insert in the hole.

The Tappex Foamsert can be installed using our specifically designed Tappex FlexiArm, (click here to see the machine in action on our You-Tube channel), used in conjunction with our production drivers, the machine provides a method of quickly and accurately installing inserts at various heights and positions, within the chosen substrate.

Automechanika 2016 – Tappex Group of Co’s.

Thanks to those visitors who stopped by the Tappex Group stand ‘9A56’ at last week’s International Trade show, NEC, Birmingham. You came, you saw, you received demonstrations & applications advice on the great range of Threaded Inserts for Plastics,  Metals &  Composite materials  that Tappex has to offer.

Further, we presented  a group subsidiary company: Pressavon Ltd – manufacturer of Progression tooled bespoke brackets & metal stampings for the Automotive, OEM & Brown-goods industries.

We shall be following up on all new inquiries from the show this week.

Macmillan Nurses – Golf Challenge!

In support of the excellent work undertaken by Macmillan nurses across the the UK, Andy Wherton (Tappex Group Quality Manager) & friends undertook to play 4 consecutive rounds of golf over last weekend at their local course in the West Midlands, sponsored by friends & colleagues alike. They are in the process of raising £100’s of vital funds to ensure the continued support of Macmillan nurses – a few aching backs this morning, but a great effort, well done.

Pressavon Ltd – Pressing ahead with growth and sustainability

Pressavon Ltd, part of the Tappex group of companies have now moved into their own purpose built 9000 square foot facility, located at the rear of Tappex Thread Inserts’ building on Masons Road, Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Pressavon Factory

The decision to build a purpose built factory was made in 2014 and demonstrates Tappex group’s commitment to the long standing subsidiary company, Pressavon Ltd.

Pressavon was established in 1953 and it manufactures bespoke metal, progression-tooled bracketry and stampings, primarily for the OEM, automotive & brown goods industries. Our specialty lies in the manufacture of complex metal bracketry in mild steel, stainless steel, high tensile steel, copper or aluminium, with capability to perform secondary op’s including robot welding, Mig & Tig welding, riveting, in-tool thread forming and mechanical sub-assembly.

The new facility contains a range of 8 presses from 25 to 215 tonnes.

Whilst investing in the building Tappex Group also installed environmentally friendly solar panels and a bio-mass heating system. The solar panels can produce approx. 50Kw/hr of electricity and this is primarily used to power the presses.

The three newly installed bio-mass heaters offer a sustainable heating solution for both the Pressavon & Tappex factories.
